Project Summary

Educating Young Minds and Duke Media-911 will provide educational support to communities, school districts, teachers, parents, and counselors in need of supplemental support for at-risk students in grades K through 12. The programs will create a model educational support program that has the resources and the capacity to replicate itself in order to meet the needs of children statewide. They will duplicate its programs in 18 cities, statewide, accommodating 700 students per site (over a 2 year period). Based on school district's test scores and performance statistics, the first group of 12 cities have been selected: Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Inglewood, Long Beach, Compton, North Hollywood, Bakersfield, San Diego, Fresno, San Bernadino, and East Los Angeles. A second group of 6 cities will be selected twelve months in advance, based on school district test scores, performance statistics, and drop-out rates.
